4.0 Nutrition (food)
In nature and in the wild squirrels have a very versatile diet. They have easy access to everything. The squirrels mostly feeds itself with tree seeds like acorns, nuts and cones from pine trees. They also eat buds, leaves, berries, mushrooms, caterpillars, bird eggs or even young birds. The squirrel daily eats five percent of his bodyweight in food. With hardy squirrels like Japanese lissen the food consist mainly of a seed an nut mix. This , among other things, has to contain, divers nuts like hazelnuts, sweet chestnuts, walnuts, cedar nuts, sunflower seeds pine seeds, pumpkin seeds etc. (peanuts are not suitable for squirrels)
